Should you take supplements?
Our diets are our primary source of nutrition, but even with the very best intentions, many of us have nutritional gaps in our diets, which is where supplements can be hugely beneficial.
Selecting the right vitamins and minerals can help us fill in these gaps, making it much easier to get the higher amounts of nutrients needed to support our optimal overall wellness.
How to get the most out of your supplements?
Here are some of our top tips to get the very best out of your supplements.
1. Be consistent
Make a plan and try to be as consistent as possible. It may sound obvious, but consistently taking your supplements at the same time each day, can help to easily establish a routine and ensure that you build up an even dosage of beneficial nutrients over time.
2. Store your supplements properly
Check the suggested storage for your supplements. These will be clearly shown on the bottle, carton or pouch and will indicate how best to store them, so they remain at their very best.
Most often this is a cool, dry place out of direct sun (and out of the reach and sight of children). For our nutritional and functional powders, which are packaged within fully recyclable LDPE plastic pouches, these should always be resealed immediately after use to lock in the freshness.
3. Take as directed
Always take your supplements as directed. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have any health concerns or have an existing health condition, it’s vitally important to always check with your doctor or your health professional before consuming any food supplements.
Allergen information will also be clearly shown on our website under the ingredients section, so that’s also an important section to refer to if you have any allergies.
4. Combine with a meal
Most vitamins and minerals are absorbed into the body much better when accompanied by other food. Having some food in your stomach before taking supplements can kick start digestive enzymes that aid the absorption process and reduce the risk of getting an upset stomach that can sometimes occur if you take supplements on an empty tummy.
5. Avoid caffeine
Try to avoid caffeine when taking your supplements as caffeine has been shown to hinder the absorption process. This simply means that you won’t get as much of the benefit as intended from your supplement so it’s best to avoid tea, coffee and other caffeinated drinks around the time you usually take them.
6. Be patient
We’re all so often seeking out a “quick fix” that would give us instant results, and whilst our products do have pretty amazing ingredients, consistency is key. Ideally, you should allow 1-3 months of regular consumption to really notice the beneficial effects.
7. Make it enjoyable
We’re all more likely to keep up with a healthy routine if we enjoy it! So, try something different. If you’re looking for a different way to prepare our Greens Complex powder for example, try blending it with your usual fruit smoothie, or mixing a serving with your favourite yoghurt and top with fresh fruits to create a delicious breakfast smoothie bowl for an added boost of goodness!
